Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept my insurance?

At this time, I am working to become an in-network provider with several major insurance carriers, and as I am approved, the list will be updated.  DC will verify your benefits prior to the first appointment. Major plans accepted include Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Anthem, Oxford, Oscar Health Buckeye/Ambetter and Caresource. There are some plans that are accepted that are not listed here and can be reviewed individually during a consultation call.

How do I pay for sessions?

You can use your insurance directly for some plans; others will require use of your out-of-network benefits, where you pay for services upfront and apply for reimbursement from your insurance. Please contact your plan for more information.

DC does offer a cash rate for sessions of $100 until August 1st, 2024. Session rates will be $125 after this date. Dryad Counseling accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. DC cannot accept cash or checks at this time.

Can I use my employee assistance program from my job to get services?

It depends on your EAP.  Some allow for you to choose your provider and some only allow contracted providers.  Check with your program to see if you are able to use your choice of provider and I will work with you to use those benefits.

Current plans are: Cigna EAP, Optum United EAP, AllOne Health, Carebridge

Why do I need to put a credit card in order to make an appointment online?

A valid card is required to hold the appointment and if the appointment is missed, a $50 fee may be charged to the card. There are waivers available for this fee and they are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

It is not charged until after your appointment,. For those using insurance or other payors, your card is not charged for a session unless there is an issue with your benefits or there is a fee or copay.

Can I be a client if I don’t live in Ohio?

Unfortunately, at this time Dryad Counseling can only provide services to clients who are in Ohio at the time of their appointments. We are working to expand to other states and hope to add more in the near future.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

No. As of May 12th, 2023, Dryad Counseling has moved to a telehealth only practice.

How do I know you’re any good?

Chances are if you made it this far, you’re thinking I might be a good fit. While I can’t guarantee that we will be, I can share some feedback I’ve gotten from clients through my career. Click here for Reviews and see if that helps you decide.

Do you provide letters for things like HRT, Gender Affirming Surgery and workplace/school accommodations for mental health conditions?

Yes. Requests are reviewed on a case by case basis. You must be an established client of Dryad Counseling in most cases before these letters are provided. DC reviews the literature related to these topics regularly and will adapt policies to reflect changes as needed. HRT does not usually require a letter from a mental health professional to start the process. For work or academic accommodations, availability of this service can vary due to specific requirements related to licensure or law.

What can I expect from each appointment?

  • The phone consultation is usually around 15 minutes and helps both of us make sure that I’m the best fit for your needs. After the call, you’ll either be directed to schedule online or we will schedule a time during the call. You’ll also be sent an intake packet by email. Please note that the initial phone consultation is required for new clients.

  • The intake appointment is scheduled for 60 minutes and you’ll be asked more about your symptoms, social supports, substance use and other items. During this appointment, we will also talk about your plan of treatment.

  • Follow up appointments are any appointment after the initial one. These can cover a lot of topics and will follow the treatment plan that was outlined in the assessment appointment. In most cases, these appointments are 50-60 minutes, but there are some times where a 30 minute appointment is necessary.

Does Dryad Counseling accept Medicaid or Medicare?

Dryad is paneled to accept two Ohio Medicaid plans; Buckeye Health Plan and Caresource. Dryad has applied to other plans and will update as more are accepted. Clients with plans not accepted are not eligible for services at this time.

Medicare historically has not allowed Licensed Professional Counselors to be paneled to accept Medicare plans. This is a federal program restriction that was changed in late 2022, and will not become effective until early 2024. Dryad is in the process of applying to be a Medicare provider, but cannot accept those plans at this time. Those with Medicare will need to pay for services up front and can apply to be reimbursed by their insurance though this is not guaranteed.
